2nd September 2016
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD today announced that the US transit software company RouteMatch is to expand its R&D team in Waterford. The Atlanta, Georgia headquartered transit software company first established an R&D team in Waterford in 2015 to focus on the creation of the company’s RMPay payment solutions technology, significantly increasing the company’s technological capability. The Minister was joined by Larry Breen and Nathan Farmer from RouteMatch at IDA Ireland’s Touchdown in Ireland Business Breakfast, one of the key business events happening around the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
The company is building an initial team of 25 software developers in Ireland by mid-2017 with recruitment currently underway. The project is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
RouteMatch provides technologies that help public transit organizations dynamically manage operations and engage riders. The company’s products are used by fixed scheduled transit services and demand response transit services where door-to-door, tailored transit is required such as for the elderly and special needs customers. The company currently services customers across North America and Australia, primarily through state and local government contracts.
Making the announcement, Minister Mitchell O’Connor said: “A further 25 jobs in Waterford is great news. This is following recent regional job announcements which shows that there is a momentum growing for jobs growth in regions around Ireland. Ensuring that Ireland creates the right environment to encourage job growth is key to continued job growth. I am delighted that RouteMatch Software are developing and growing in Ireland and I wish the team the very best for the future.”
Welcoming the announcement Minister for Training, Skills and Innovation John Halligan said: “It is very positive to see that recent CSO results are showing that the South-East of the country is a growing region and is now the fastest growing region outside of Dublin. I am keen to see continued job growth in the South East with full time sustainable job growth my number one priority. RouteMatch choosing Waterford is a vote of confidence for the region and the talented workforce in the area. I wish RouteMatch and its employees all the best.”
Commenting on the announcement today, Larry Breen, the company’s Vice President of Product and head of the Ireland office said: “Transit is needed by so many people today, and without it, many cannot get to their jobs, medical appointments or families. Ireland and in particular Waterford has been a welcome extension to the RouteMatch family and supporting our goal to connect riders with transit. The environment and the talented people have really helped us get up and running in record time. Through the support of the IDA, the Irish Government and in conjunction with WIT and TSSG, the process for getting started in Waterford was an easier than anticipated and we are delighted to now be part of a rapidly growing Technology Hub within Ireland.”
IDA CEO Martin Shanahan said: “It’s great to see RouteMatch Inc. grow its R&D team in Waterford. The technology ecosystem in Waterford is evolving and expanding and this makes it an attractive location for companies such as RouteMatch, enabling them to identify key partners to engage with and also offering opportunities to collaborate with TSSG and WIT in the research area. I wish the company ongoing success with this R&D project.”
