Department of Jobs, 23 Kildare Street participating in Open House Dublin
The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation is once again pleased to participate in Open House Dublin (OHD), a unique event organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation and each year features over 100 buildings ranging from domestic to Government which are not normally accessible to the general public.
23 Kildare Street is the first bespoke Government offices built after the establishment of the State, this building is an example of classical Art Deco architecture. Designed by JR Boyd Barrett as part of an architectural competition in 1935, the building was completed in 1941 and features carved reliefs by a female sculptor Gabriel Hayes who also designed the decimal 1/2p, 1p and 2p coins featuring celtic bird motif, which remained in circulation until the adoption of the Euro in 2002.
23 Kildare Street will be open from 11am-5pm on Saturday 15th October, tours will be conducted by a senior architect from the Office of Public Works and are on a first come first served basis with the last tour departing at 4.30pm. We are child and wheelchair friendly.
