23rd February 2016
The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton today (Tuesday) welcomed the latest Quarterly National Household Survey figures from the Central Statistics Office, showing that 2015 was another very strong year for employment growth for the country with 44,000 extra people back in work during 2015.
The figures published today also show that with an annual employment growth rate of 2.3%, this puts Ireland right at the top of international jobs growth tables and that approximately 50% of jobs created in 2015 were in export oriented EI and IDA companies.
Speaking today, Minister Bruton said:
“I am delighted to see that last year was another strong year for employment growth in Ireland. What is most welcome is the wide range of sectors showing growth and this growth is underpinned by a strong performance by our expert oriented companies. It is also encouraging that there is strong growth in our labour force which suggests that more people are recognising the new opportunities that a growing economy offers.
Minister Bruton continued “It is also very encouraging that long term unemployment continues to fall and that the plans that we have in place to tackle the unemployment crisis that we inherited in 2011 are having real impacts in every region of the country. The challenge now is to continue to support our entrepreneurs and workers with continued policies as they continue to grow jobs and get our economy and country back on track. I am confident that with that with the right mix of policies that helped create this environment, enterprise and workers can thrive”.
