Martin Sisk appointed Chairperson to the Board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA)

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, announced the appointment of Mr Martin Sisk, as Chairperson to the Board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA).

On the appointment Minister Mitchell O'Connor said: “I am delighted to congratulate Martin Sisk on his appointment as Chairperson to the Board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA). Martin joins IAASA at an important time as it seeks to further enhance auditing and accounting standards in Ireland. Providing an appropriate oversight function for the auditing and accounting sector in Ireland plays a fundamental role in assuring domestic and international investors that a suitable regulatory environment underpins Ireland's competitive offering. I have no doubt that Martin's extensive experience will enable him to help direct IAASA over the coming years and I wish him every success on his appointment"


Under the Companies Act 2014, the Transparency Regulations and the Audit Regulations, IAASA has seven primary functions:  

  • supervision of how the Prescribed Accountancy Bodies (PABs) regulate and monitor their members


  • monitoring of the periodic financial reporting of certain entities whose securities have been admitted to trading on a regulated market in the EU


  • carrying out certain functions in respect of liquidators


  • promotion of adherence to high professional standards in the auditing and accountancy profession, and


  • acting as a specialist source of advice to the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation on auditing and accounting matters


  • carrying out the external quality assurance of the audits of public interest entities


  • oversight of statutory audit


Biography of the Chairperson: Mr Martin Sisk


A graduate of University College Dublin, Mr Sisk qualified as a Solicitor in 1979.

He has almost 30 years’ regulatory, financial and business related experience. Appointed to the Board of the Health Information and Quality Authority. Elected to the Board, Vice President and subsequently President of the Irish League of Credit Unions. Appointed as independent non-executive Director of the Interim Board of the Office of Government Procurement. Appointed as Director and subsequently Chairperson of VHI Healthcare.

Mr Sisk worked for five years as a Solicitor in the Office of the Revenue Solicitors. He was appointed Registrar of Friendly Societies for a period of eighteen years and also worked as Head of Anti Money Laundering, Terrorist Finance and Financial Sanctions Unit in the Central Bank of Ireland.
