Slack Relocates European HQ within Dublin and Announces 80 New Jobs

Fastest-growing business application of all time expands presence in Ireland to support growth

Slack has moved its European Headquarters to One Park Place in Dublin and announced it will be hiring for 80 new jobs over the next two years to meet growing demand from European businesses, and existing customers including Barclays, The Financial Times and Ocado Technology.

Slack, a privately held software company headquartered in San Francisco, opened its first office outside of North America in The Digital Hub, Dublin 8, in May 2015. Having outgrown the space, the company is moving its European headquarters to accommodate new positions in customer experience and account management teams, which will bring the total number of people working for Slack in Ireland to 180 by the end of 2017. The jobs are being created with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

The move to the new European HQ, which occupies 29,000 square feet in the heart of Dublin, comes hot on the heels of strong growth and the company opening its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne, Australia, at the end of March.

Slack is a messaging app for teams, which helps make working lives simpler, more pleasant, and more productive by bringing team communication, file sharing and other tools together in one central platform. It integrates with dozens of popular services such as Twitter, Dropbox, Trello, Asana, Google Docs, JIRA, MailChimp, Stripe, Zendesk, and others to help consolidate and make sense of the ever-growing flows of data that confront modern teams.

As of April 2016, Slack has 2.7 million daily active users, and 430 employees worldwide. Customers using Slack include Ticketmaster, Lush and Spotify, as well comedy writer and director Graham Linehan, creator of Father Ted.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: “Software is a key sector which we have targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and when Slack announced last year that it was establishing an operation in Dublin and creating 100 jobs it was a major boost. Today’s announcement that it is creating an additional 80 jobs and opening a new office is further evidence of its commitment to Ireland and its ambitious plans for its operations here. Winning investments from world-leading companies like Slack not only create large numbers of jobs in themselves, but also make it easier for us to market Ireland for further investments and develop a vibrant start-up community here.”

“Customer growth and adoption across all markets in Europe are driving the growth of our team and operations in Dublin,” explained James Sherrett, Slack’s Dublin-based senior manager of accounts. “We are the fastest growing business application in history. Our user base grew tenfold last year and we’re seeing strong demand across all industries and from businesses of all sizes, for more efficient and effective team communications.”

Commenting on the expansion, Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland said: “Slack is a great example of how companies can quickly establish their operations in Ireland and rapidly expand using the strong pool of local talent. Slack’s decision to ramp up its team here reaffirms Ireland’s reputation as a hub for innovative and exciting tech companies and comes on the heels of other recent significant announcements in the Technology space.”

Slack is currently recruiting for a number of positions in its Dublin office.  For more information about employment opportunities, or to submit your application, please visit: https://slack.com/jobs
