The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment leads on Ireland’s engagement with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The main aims of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and engage in social dialogue on work-related issues.
The ILO has a unique tripartite structure, in which employers’ and workers’ representatives have an equal voice with those of governments. It delivers its objectives through the formulation of international policies and programmes, the creation of international labour standards, an extensive programme of international technical cooperation and training, education, research, and publishing activities.
The Department is responsible for reporting on Irish labour standards, the ratification of labour conventions, and represents Ireland at the International Labour Conference and the ILO Governing Body.
