The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has today announced a new round of the tariff suspension/quota schemes and is calling for applications from manufacturers in the chemicals, microelectronic and related sectors.
The tariff suspension scheme offers the possibility for such companies to import raw materials, components or intermediate products from outside the European Union free from tariff duty, if the item cannot be sourced in the EU/ Turkey.
The tariff quota scheme is designed to address shortages in the availability of required materials within the EU and can be applied for in the same way as suspensions.
Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy TD, welcomed the new call, saying:
“Irish manufacturers identify production costs as a major concern of operating in the global marketplace. The tariff suspension and quota schemes represent a great opportunity for businesses to gain a competitive advantage by keeping the costs of sourcing components not available in the EU down. I would encourage Irish manufacturers to avail of these schemes where the need arises.”
The closing date and time for the receipt of the next round of applications is 5.30pm on Friday, 29 January 2021. Applications should be sent by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org and posted to the Department at the address below. Please note that late or incomplete applications will not be accepted by the Department.
The suspension of duties on these applications, if they are successful, will come into effect from 01January 2022.
