The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment runs a scheme called the Emergency Humanitarian Flooding Scheme for small businesses and community, voluntary and sports organisations.
Support for small businesses and community, voluntary and sports organisations that have suffered flood damage
This scheme aims to support small businesses and community, voluntary and sports organisations that have suffered flood damage as a direct result of a severe weather event. The Irish Red Cross acts as the administrator of the scheme on behalf of the department.
The scheme is available to small businesses of up to 20 employees (or wholetime equivalents), and community, voluntary and sports organisations who, through no fault of their own, have been unable to obtain insurance cover for flooding. The funding provided by the scheme is to contribute towards the costs of restoring the premises of a business or voluntary, community or sports organisation to its original, pre-flood condition. The funding may be used for the replacement of damaged flooring, fixtures, fittings, and stock if relevant. The maximum funding amount available through the scheme is up to €20,000 per small business or voluntary, community or sports organisation.
The scheme has two payment stages. The first stage provides funding of up to €5,000 depending on the scale of damages incurred. The purpose of the first stage is to enable small businesses or organisations to return to trading and activities as quickly as possible after a flooding incident. The second stage of the process enables small businesses and other organisations to gain further support through a longer assessment process. Applicants that have incurred significant damages of over €5,000 may apply for this additional funding and a Building Assessment will be organised through the Irish Red Cross. The total level of support available under the scheme for both stages is a maximum of €20,000 per business or voluntary, community or sports organisation.
