The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment has published its Statement of Strategy 2025-2028, setting out a new path to drive competitiveness, sustainability and prosperity over the next three years.
This new strategy outlines six cross-cutting goals aimed at strengthening Ireland’s position as a leading location to work, do business and visit. It places a strong emphasis on innovation, digitalisation, decarbonisation and infrastructure, while also recognising the vital role of tourism as a key economic driver.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, welcoming the publication, said:
“Our recent Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, the Action Plan on Market Diversification and this month’s pro-enterprise budget recognise the critical link between industrial development, competitiveness and job creation.
My department’s new Statement of Strategy reflects our commitment to protect the 2.81 million jobs in our economy, which we cannot take for granted. My focus is on supporting enterprise and ensuring our economy remains resilient and competitive and this strategy will strengthen Ireland’s position as a leading location to work and do business in. At its heart is a commitment to deliver opportunity and prosperity for all by driving a competitive, resilient and sustainable economy that supports enterprise, tourism and employment across all of Ireland’s regions”.
The strategy marks the first time the department’s remit formally includes tourism policy, highlighting its importance in regional development and job creation. It commits to supporting Irish-based enterprises to start, scale and compete internationally, while also enhancing Ireland’s influence in Europe ahead of its EU Presidency in 2026.
Secretary General Declan Hughes added:
“This Statement of Strategy articulates our mission to deliver opportunity and prosperity for all by driving a competitive, resilient and sustainable economy. It is informed by engagement with stakeholders and staff. The department, its offices and agencies will work collaboratively with colleagues across government, business, employer and worker representatives, other stakeholders and at EU and international level to make Ireland the world’s leading location to work, do business, and visit.”
