Public consultation on the transposition of Directive (EU) 2020/1828 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment invites submissions from interested parties to a public consultation on the transposition of Directive (EU) 2020/1828 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2020 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers and repealing Directive 2009/22/EC.

This Directive, which must be transposed by 25 December 2022 will provide tools for stopping illegal practices and facilitating redress for consumers where a number of them are victims of the same infringement of their rights, in a mass harm situation. No such system currently exists in Ireland.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is consulting on the use of Member State options, being matters in respect of which Member States can or must make a choice.

Deadline for submissions: Friday, 7 May 2021

Respondents are requested to make their submissions on the Response Template provided and send to conspol@enterprise.gov.ie clearly marked as ‘Public Consultation on the Transposition of Directive (EU) 2020/1828’.
