The Seventh EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) is due to commence in 2007.
The current Framework Programme (FP6) involves expenditure of approximately 4 billion per annum to support trans-national research collaboration in academia and industry, the mobility and training of researchers across Europe and other initiatives. The European Commission is proposing a doubling of the EU research budget (to approximately €8 billion per annum) and is proposing a number of new initiatives in the next Framework Programme to help build the capacity and strength of the “European Research Area“.
