Silicon Island: Ireland's National Semiconductor Strategy

Silicon Island: Ireland's National Semiconductor Strategy is an ambitious strategy designed to create high-value jobs, secure long-term investment, and cement Ireland’s role as a critical player in Europe’s semiconductor future.

Ireland already has a robust semiconductor sector with over 130 companies, 20,000 jobs, and €13.5 billion in annual exports. But with the right support, this sector can do far more: a recent KPMG study shows that by 2040, Ireland could support up to 34,500 new semiconductor roles.

Silicon Island is informed by a public stakeholder consultation and engagement across Government, industry, academia, and research organisations. The Strategy recognises the semiconductor industry as a crucial enabler of innovation, growth, and the continued operation of many other sectors in Ireland and globally.

The Strategy is accompanied by a preliminary version of a comprehensive mapping of Ireland’s semiconductor ecosystem, which is currently being finalised by the Department as part of its broader work in support of the sector.
