Profile of Public Research Activity in Ireland 1998 – 2006

This report provides a valuable resource for stakeholders wishing to have a comprehensive reference and an overall picture of the fields of science in which the Irish public research base is active. It is critical that the data capturing the outputs of the public research base are fully available and can best be utilised by policy makers and enterprise to maximise the potential for innovation and economic growth.

The report present a series of detailed research activity profiles for 19 fields of Science covering the period 1998-2006 and uses a number of data sources including the Higher Education Authority (HEA) enrolment and graduate student data, Forfás Higher Education Research and Development (HERD), Government Research and Development (GOVERD) data, and an independent national Bibliometric assessment.
