EU Directive 2019/790 – Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Single Market – Information Note

Information Note for copyright stakeholders and other interested parties.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment would like to thank all stakeholders for their contribution to the public consultation process in relation to the EU Copyright Directive 2019/790.  All submissions have assisted the Department in its analysis and consideration of how best to transpose this EU Directive into Irish copyright legislation.

The Directive provides a framework for a more modern copyright legislation that will strengthen the rights and protections afforded to various categories of rightsholders. Its provisions reflect technological advances and increased digitisation and provide for wider access and use of copyright protected works to the potential benefit of the creative sectors, press publishers, researchers, educators, cultural heritage institutions, and citizens.

The Department has produced this Information Note to offer additional clarity on its approach to the transposition of the Directive.
