New European Commission eAid Register – what you need to know

The new eAid Register, established under European Commission Regulations (EU) 2023/2831 and 2023/2832, is a centralised European Commission database that records State aid and de minimis aid awarded by public authorities across the EU.

Certain information contained in the eAid Register will be publicly accessible. This means that some of the information on the register will be available to view by the public. It is important that you read this notice to be aware of the new changes.

When does this start

  • From 1 January 2026
All General and Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI) de minimis aid awards must be entered  into the e-Aid Register.

  • From 1 January 2027
This will also apply to aid granted under the Agricultural De minimis Regulation.

What information will be published

Only information required under EU law will be published on the eAid Register. This published information can be viewed by the public.

The information that will be published on the eAid Register will include:

  • beneficiary reference number (ID)
  • type of aid
  • name of the granting authority
  • aid amount and currency
  • aid instrument (form of aid)
  • sector of activity (NACE code)

Protection of personal data

Where the beneficiary is an individual, either the person’s name or their identifier number will be blurred on the public register. This ensures compliance with data protection laws.

What this mean for businesses

Once three years of aid awards have been recorded, the eAid Register may replace the current self-declaration process used by businesses. This decision will be made by the relevant granting authority. The register is intended to enhance transparency of public funding awards and simplify administrative processes.

Public access

All de minimis aid awards will be publicly available on the de minimis section of the European Commission’s eAid Register.
