A New Era for Irish Tourism: National Tourism Policy Statement

A New Era for Irish Tourism – the new National Tourism Policy, a commitment in the Programme for Government, is a forward-looking policy that sets out a clear and achievable vision for growing visitor numbers and associated revenue, employment, and ensuring regional prosperity across Ireland.

Tourism is one of Ireland’s most vital indigenous sectors. With over 46,000 tourism-related enterprises, it supports nearly one in every ten jobs and plays a central role in sustaining local economies. It is a sector built on community, resilience and innovation.

This policy sets the course for the next five years. It prioritises support for tourism SMEs, recognising their contribution to employment and balanced regional development. It also aligns tourism with our broader national objectives: climate action, digital transformation, competitiveness, and inclusive growth.

A Tourism Policy Oversight Group will be established to monitor implementation of the Tourism Policy Statement. This group will be supported by improved data collection and strengthened collaboration across government and industry. It will ensure that tourism policy remains responsive, evidence-based and aligned with broader national priorities.

Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland are central to delivering the policy’s objectives and will align their 3-year Corporate Plans accordingly for the periods 2026-2028 and 2029-2031.
