- show how AI is used in practice with real business examples and case studies
- encourage gradual adoption by building awareness, skills and readiness
Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Niamh Smyth has launched the “AI - Good for Business” initiative, to support Irish businesses adopting artificial intelligence into their day-to-day work.
SMEs heard about the new initiative at the Google Ireland AI Roadshow at the Monaghan Peace Campus.
Speaking at the fireside chat with Cera Ward, Google Managing Director for Central Europe, Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Niamh Smyth said:
"Artificial Intelligence is already delivering real, tangible results for businesses across Ireland, including the small and medium enterprises that are the backbone of our economy and our communities. AI that is good for business must also be good for the people who build and run those businesses, and for every person who works in them. Through AI – Good for Business, we are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind as AI advances. Enhancing digital literacy is central to that commitment and raising awareness of the practical supports on offer is a core priority. We are bringing that message directly to businesses and communities the length and breadth of Ireland.
“I want every Irish business owner, and every person who works for them to know that the opportunity is real, the supports are there. Government is behind them every step of the way the guidance, information, and expertise to help companies of every size."
The initiative will serve as a national umbrella framework for artificial intelligence and digital transformation supports and aims to:
- Simplify access to information and supports about AI: centrally promote events; financial and training supports; programmes including the Charter for Digital Inclusion and key legislative developments.
- Show how AI is used in practice with real business examples: Showcase enterprise case studies highlighting how businesses are using AI to boost productivity, innovation and growth, while supporting skills development and awareness of EU digital policy developments, including the EU AI Act, Digital Services Act, Digital Decade Programme and D9+ Group.
- Encourage gradual adoption by building awareness, skills and readiness, advocate for “start small and scale” approach, support skills development, keep businesses informed about EU digital rules and developments
