Expert Group on Future Skills Needs appoints Colm Kelly as new Chairman

Colm Kelly (PwC) new Chair of EGFSN effective from 28 January 2026

Yesterday (28 January  2026), Mr Colm Kelly was appointed Chair of the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) by the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke for a period of 3 years. Colm will replace Tony Donohoe who stepped down as Chair of the EGFSN in December.

The EGFSN advises the government on future skills requirements and associated labour market issues affecting enterprise and employment growth.

Minister Burke welcomed the appointment of Mr Kelly

“Colm has a wealth of experience both within and outside of Ireland. His expertise will be invaluable to the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN).

Colm has held a number of global roles at PwC as well as key domestic positions, including his Chairmanship of the Foundation for Fiscal Studies. The advice the EGFSN provides to government on skills requirements is essential as we plan for the future. I wish Colm every success and I have no doubt that his leadership will further enhance the work of the EGFSN.

I would also like to take the time to pay tribute to the work of his predecessor, Tony Donohoe, who stepped down as Chair of the EGFSN last month after 9 very successful years. He provided critical leadership in what was both a turbulent and successful economic period”.

Colm Kelly on his appointment said

I would like to thank Minister Burke for appointing me as the new Chair of the EGFSN. It is an exciting role, and I am very committed to the critically important work of the EGFSN. I would like also to congratulate my predecessor Tony Donohoe on his excellent leadership in recent years. I recognise that I am taking on this role at a critical time in a very fast changing global landscape with significant implications for Ireland’s skills needs and requirements. I very much look forward to working with the other members of the EGFSN, with the Department and with key stakeholders to ensure we can successfully respond to these challenges.”
