20th September 2018
This morning the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Mr. Simon Coveney T.D., the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Ms. Heather Humphreys T.D., and the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Mr. Michael Creed T.D. provided an update on the latest Brexit preparedness and support measures being taken by the Government and announced details of the ‘Getting Ireland Brexit Ready’ public information campaign, including workshop events to be held over successive weeks throughout October in Cork, Galway, Monaghan and Dublin.
A huge amount of work is already well underway across Government and its agencies. The communication of this work will now be stepped up, including through a revamped Government wide Brexit website hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and dedicated social media channels.
The Government’s public information efforts will also include a series of whole-of-Government Getting Ireland Brexit Ready public outreach events across the country. Further information on these events will be communicated within the coming weeks.
Speaking after the event the Tánaiste said “Today we are stepping up the visibility of our preparedness work. I am pleased to announce that four whole-of-Government Getting Ireland Brexit Ready public outreach events will be held across the country. The series will begin on 5 October in Cork, followed by Galway on 12 October, Monaghan on 19 October and Dublin on 25 October. These events will showcase the extensive work of the Government’s agencies, bringing together this experience and expertise in a ‘one stop shop’ for citizens and businesses in particular. Brexit is going to bring change and Ireland will be ready for that change. And the most crucial and reassuring aspect to our contingency planning remains that, after Brexit, Ireland will continue to enjoy all the benefits of being a full and valued member of the European Union.”
Minister Humphreys said “Brexit, as we all know, is the most significant challenge facing Irish enterprise in over 50 years. Preparation is key; not only at Government level but, crucially, at firm level. This campaign is an excellent
opportunity to talk to businesses about getting ready for Brexit. My key goal is to ensure that regardless of sector or region, businesses right across the country have easy access to information on the many supports that are available to them.”
Minister Creed said “My Department and its Agencies are at the forefront in working with firms to ensure they are equipped to deal with Brexit. Guided by detailed research, we have put in place a range of initiatives to help businesses respond to the challenges posed by Brexit, and to grasp opportunities as they arise.
