Lufthansa Technik Shannon launches state-of-the-art training centre
Current and future generations of aircraft mechanics to benefit from world-class training facilities
Lufthansa Technik Shannon, one of the world’s leading aircraft maintenance companies has opened a new Aviation Training Campus in Shannon. The state-of-the-art facility is unique in that it provides a combination of classroom, workshop and on-the-job training facilities.
The facility marks a significant investment by Lufthansa Technik Shannon in the future of the company in the region and builds on the role the company has already played in training thousands of aviation professionals from all over the world in Shannon.
Pat Breen, Minister for Trade, Business and Enterprise officiated at the opening of the new campus, congratulating the company for the contribution it has made to the Shannon region and the impact it has had in driving Ireland’s reputation in the aviation sector on the international stage.
Pat Shine, CEO and Managing Director of Lufthansa Technik Shannon said; “Developing and opening this new campus was in direct response to the battle for talent in Ireland and the worldwide shortage of aircraft mechanics. This investment was imperative to develop aviation professionals of the future, support the development and growth of Lufthansa Technik’s aircraft maintenance business in Shannon and to fuel its expanding international aircraft maintenance training business. We will be training current and future generations of aircraft mechanics, so this is a very proud day for the team in Shannon.”
Jacinta Courtney, Leader of the Training School in Shannon, said that feedback about current and future needs of the industry from former students, who are now working in areas including aircraft leasing, finance and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), had shaped the design and development of the centre’s training products.
One of the company’s first trainees, David Ward, who trained at the company 28 years ago and is now Aviation Training Business Development Leader at Lufthansa Technik Shannon proudly took on the role of Master of Ceremonies for the opening, reflecting on both the dramatic changes and the similarities that prevail in terms of standards and processes.
Guests attending the celebratory launch included Jim King, a founding member of the Board of Directors of the company, (formerly Shannon Aerospace Limited), Stephan Drewes, Vice President Base Maintenance Production EUMEA/ America, representatives from the Irish Aviation Authority, the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and the City of Dublin Education and Training Board, the University of Limerick, Industry Partners, Customers and the Management Team of the company.
