29th September 2015
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD today welcomed the continuing fall in the numbers of people unemployed.
The statistics published by the Central Statistics Office today show that unemployment for September 2015 is at 9.4% or 205,300, down from 206,100 and 9.5% in August 2015 and from 10.9% and 233,400 a year ago.
Speaking today ahead of the publication of the Government’s Capital Plan, Minister Bruton said:
“Creating jobs and reducing unemployment is at the heart of everything the Government has done since we took office. A month ago we learned that the number of people at work has increased by over 125,000 since we launched our Action Plan for Jobs – hitting our 100,000 target almost 2 years ahead of schedule. They also showed that the jobs recovery is gathering pace in every part of the country, with the fastest jobs growth happening outside of the main cities.
“The figures published by the Central Statistics Office today show that this level of job-creation is continuing to have an impact on the unemployment numbers, with almost 30,000 fewer people now unemployed compared with a year ago.
“Starting with today’s Capital Plan, and continuing with the forthcoming Budget and Action Plan for Jobs 2016, we will continue to implement strong and prudent policy measures to secure this recovery and deliver full employment so that everyone who wants a job in Ireland can find one. It is only by delivering a sustainable and prudent jobs recovery that we will ultimately be able to deliver increases in take-home pay and improvements in services that will allow families across the country to feel the benefits in their daily lives".
