Taoiseach Enda Kenny announces 300 new jobs in Dublin as Sage serves European customers from Sandyford

Sage announces new Dublin centre as cornerstone of its European strategy

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed the creation of 300 jobs in Dublin as Europe’s second largest technology company Sage announces the opening of a new Sandyford base.

The Dublin Centre will serve the European market for Sage, the world’s leading small business accounting, payments and payroll solutions provider.

These new centres will provide digitally-driven sales and support for its global products. It will enhance the overall experience for customers and partners and be part of the sales proposition to potential customers across Europe. Today (Wednesday), Sage said the office will create career opportunities in marketing, sales and services.

Sage is building these centres globally as part of its strategy to build deeper, life-long relationships with customers. Currently, Sage has 1.8m customers across Europe.

Sage has an existing office in Dublin that currently employs 250 members of staff. As the city is home to some of the world’s largest technology companies, Sage will also benefit from a rich technology talent pool.

This project is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: “Today’s announcement of 300 new jobs by Sage in establishing their new centre in Ireland will be a huge boost to our national mission of securing and embedding the recovery. Not only will this create 300 new jobs for the local area, it will also reinforce Dublin’s position as one of the leading technology hubs in the world. This positive announcement builds on this week's Budget where we have prioritised changes to support work and enterprise so that we can keep the recovery going and see its benefits spread to more households."

Stephen Kelly, CEO, Sage said: ‘Ireland is central to our vision for Sage in Europe and this new centre is a symbol of our commitment to serving and selling to our small and medium business customers in the region. Sage is a global company that is moving at pace and we want the very best of Dublin’s talent to join us on this mission.’

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, who is currently in Waterford leading the Enterprise Ireland trade mission in Ireland, said: "This is great news for Dublin and a further great boost to our ambition to be the technology capital of Europe. Technology is an area which we have specifically targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and we have put in place a range of measures to support growth in this area. I wish Stephen and the team every success with this project".

Brendan Flattery, President of Sage Europe said: ‘“For over 30 years we’ve been helping small businesses to grow – this new Dublin centre will significantly strengthen us in supporting our customers achieve their business ambition.  The new centre is focussed entirely on providing a new experience that will propel businesses across Europe to thrive and succeed.”

Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland said: “Sage is one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the world right now. Sage’s decision to expand here once again confirms Ireland as a great location for international businesses to locate and expand. Sage’s decision to make such a large commitment to Ireland, and to make it one of their global strategic sites, will influence similar companies to do the same.”
