2nd October 2015
Strong growth in key practice areas including corporate law, dispute resolution and financial services
Hiring continues for legal and professional support roles
Leading business law firm Mason Hayes & Curran is creating 75 new jobs by the end of 2015.
The announcement was welcomed by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD as he attended a seminar held today by the firm on the new Workplace Relations Commission system which came into effect yesterday (1st October) following a series of reforms driven by the Minister.
During 2015 the legal firm will have recruited 75 extra personnel for a variety of roles from lawyers to professional support staff. Hiring commenced earlier this year and will continue until year end. Mason Hayes & Curran currently employs 410 personnel including 77 partners. In 2014 the firm hired 64 new staff.
The new jobs being created are as a result of the continued strong growth the firm is experiencing in all of its key practice areas including corporate law, dispute resolution, financial services, employment, real estate, tax, technology, construction, healthcare and energy law.
Last year, the firm also won the prestigious “Irish Law Firm of the Year” award in the UK from independent ranking firm Chambers and Partners.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton T.D. commented:“I am delighted to be here today at this seminar to help inform professionals on the operation of the new Workplace Relations Commission system which came into effect yesterday. This is a major reform to our workplace relations structure that will make it easier and cheaper to use for employers, workers and the State alike. I am confident that after these reforms bed in, we will have a truly world-class workplace relations system.
“Today’s announcement by Mason Hayes & Curran that the firm is recruiting 75 extra staff during 2015 is very welcome. I wish Declan and his colleagues continued success for the future”.
Commenting on the recruitment, Mason Hayes & Curran’s Managing Partner, Declan Black said:“We are obviously pleased to be busy and growing. Clients need well-resourced law firms to deliver quality advice and service at the speed that business operates. Our recruitment initiatives are designed to meet, and indeed anticipate, that client need.”
“The contribution of the professional services sector in Ireland to employment and growth can sometimes be overlooked. The sector provides a major direct contribution to the economy and is also highly influential in supporting foreign investment by complementing the State’s initiatives and providing a sophisticated level of service to international corporates which is on a par with anything they experience in their home jurisdictions. The growth of Mason Hayes & Curran is reflective of both the upturn in the economy and our ethic of providing consistently excellent and clear advice and doing so quickly.”
Over the last 10 years revenues at the firm have increased year on year. Turnover increased 25% during 2014 to €60 million. Mason Hayes & Curran is the only law firm in Ireland to publish its revenue. Commenting on the figures, the firm’s Managing Partner, Declan Black said:“Financial outcomes flow from clients choosing Mason Hayes & Curran as their legal advisor. And that only happens when we consistently provide superior advice and service. Financial services, real estate, corporate and tax had particularly strong years due to a significant increase in transactional activity, but growth is not restricted to those practice groups. Litigation, a traditional strength of the firm, continues to grow along with our market leading technology practice. Our international work also grew strongly and now represents about 40% of our business, so we are always keen to recruit lawyers returning from abroad.”
