Malwarebytes creates 50 new jobs in Cork

Award-winning US cybersecurity company opens EMEA headquarters in Cork

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton T.D., today announced that Malwarebytes, the company founded to protect people and businesses from next-generation cyberthreats, has chosen Cork as the site for its EMEA HQ, creating 50 new jobs over 3 years.

The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Malwarebytes was founded in 2008 by Marcin Kleczynski to tackle advanced online threats which consistently escape detection by traditional anti-virus tools. The proprietary and innovative software protects both consumers and businesses using intelligent heuristics and behaviour-based technologies which are specifically designed to counteract the latest, most advanced, online threats. With global headquarters in Silicon Valley, USA, the fast growing company has already been nominated as one of Forbes Magazine’s ‘America’s Most Promising Companies’ this year.

Making the announcement, Minister Bruton said: “Technology is a key sector which we have targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and in the past three years we have seen an impressive jobs performance in this area. Today’s announcement that Malwarebytes is establishing a new facility in Cork with the creation of 50 jobs is another important boost. I am determined to ensure that with the right policies we can see continued job growth and create an extra 40,000 jobs across the country this year”.

Marcin Kleczynski Founder & CEO said: “Cork has a deserved reputation as a leading location for technology companies, with a talented workforce and established tech ecosystem, it gives Malwarebytes the opportunity to build a world-class team. We are experiencing remarkable business growth and Cork will play a central role in our European expansion.”

Anthony O’Mara, VP of Sales, EMEA, said “With a crime-fighting Silicon Valley culture, great brand and recognised set of products, Malwarebytes provides an exciting employment opportunity for local talent. Cork was a natural choice for the company and we look forward to using it as our base of operations moving forward.”

CEO of IDA Ireland Martin Shanahan said: “Malwarebytes will be joining an established group of security software companies based in the Cork area. We can now point to a real cluster of global security software companies operating in Ireland – success breeds success. Malwarebytes has said that the Customer Support and Development Centre in Cork will be integral to the company's European expansion plans.”
