Exports in first five months of 2015 up 18% on same period last year
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, today welcomed the latest trade figures from the Central Statistics Office, which show that goods exports, at €8.8 bn, were up 8% in May 2015 compared with May 2014.
The main driver of the increase was a rise in the value of exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products which was up 30% on May 2014.
The figures also show that in the first five months of 2015, goods exports, at € 44 bn, were up 18% when compared to the same period in 2014.
The figures released today show that exports in May to the US, which is our biggest single export market increased by 29 %, to Belgium by 16 %, The Netherlands by 12%, Germany by 11% and the UK by 7% when compared to May 2014.
Commenting on today’s figures Minister Bruton said:
“At the heart of our jobs plan is building a new sustainable economy based on enterprise and exports. In the past four years we have seen major progress on this, with consistent growth in exports driving a strong employment recovery. Over 100,000 extra jobs have been created since we launched the Action Plan for Jobs in early 2012, with the export sectors accounting for almost half of this growth.
“This continued positive trend in export figures is very welcome, with goods exports in the first five months of the year up 18% on the same period last year. With strong implementation of our plan, I am convinced we can continue to see progress until we achieve sustainable full employment in the coming years”.
