The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD and the Minister of State for Business and Employment, Ged Nash TD, today (Wednesday) congratulated Patricia King on her appointment as General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD and the Minister of State for Business and Employment, Ged Nash TD, today (Wednesday) congratulated Patricia King on her appointment as General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
Minister Bruton said:
“I am delighted to congratulate Patricia on her appointment as General Secretary Designate of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. I have worked with Patricia on a number of issues over the past four years – and indeed over quite a few years before that – and have always found her to be extremely professional and completely committed to the betterment of her members. I look forward to working with her in her new role”.
“I also wish to pay tribute at this time to David Begg, who will shortly step down as ICTU General Secretary. David has been a tireless representative of union members across the country for many years and has been a strong defender of workers’ rights and interests over that time. I wish him well in the future”.
Minister Nash said:
“This is an historic first for Congress - appointing its first female General Secretary and I want to warmly congratulate Patricia King. I have known and worked with Patricia for many years and she has a very strong record of achievement in representing the interests of working people. Patricia has great leadership qualities and I am sure will continue to put them to good use on behalf of workers as we progress significant legislation in the industrial relations sphere such as Collective Bargaining, Registered Employment Agreements and the Low Pay Commission in order to cement our recovery.”
“I too would like to commend the outgoing General Secretary of ICTU David Begg who has worked vigorously on behalf of his members through some of the most difficult years this country has seen.”
