Guidewire Software, Inc. (NYSE: GWRE), a global provider of software products to the general insurance industry, today announced the expansion of its operations in Ireland with the leasing of additional office space to handle its growing team.

Guidewire Software, Inc. (NYSE: GWRE), a global provider of software products to the general insurance industry, today announced the expansion of its operations in Ireland with the leasing of additional office space to handle its growing team. To build on its success in the country, Guidewire anticipates hiring 60-80 new staff in 2015/2016. Already employing more than 150 people at its Global Services and Development Centre in Dublin, this expansion will position Guidewire Software Ireland as the largest office outside of the U.S., where the company is headquartered. The additional staff will provide consultancy support and product development resources to some of Guidewire’s 180 customers around the world.

Today’s jobs announcement by Guidewire Software is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, the Government agency responsible for the attraction and development of foreign investment in Ireland.

There are two components to the Development Centre and Global Services in Dublin: the European Development Centre (EDC) and the Guidewire Services Centre (GSC). Product Development has been a significant factor in the growth of the EDC this year, where its highly-skilled technical team is developing product extensions, accelerators, mobile applications and web portals. The strength of technical talent in Ireland led Guidewire to designate the Dublin site as its fifth Development Centre, joining the Guidewire teams in the San Francisco Bay Area, Exton (Pennsylvania), Tokyo, and Toronto as a product development operation.

“We have been very pleased with the quality of talent and output from our Dublin office, and I regard our decision to start operations in Ireland as one of the best we have made in the last several years,” said Marcus Ryu, chief executive officer, Guidewire Software.  “We intend to build on that success with a significant increase in our hiring plans and a deeper integration of our Dublin-based personnel into the career progression opportunities of the company, especially in Europe.”

Dan Lonborg, engineering director and head of the European Development Centre, added , “It's a great vote of confidence in the team and the outstanding work they have done that we ‘ve decided to increase our investment in the European Development Centre. This expansion will allow us to take on bigger, more complex and new types of projects in Dublin.” Dan continued, “Guidewire’s goal is to build the best software possible for our industry and our Dublin team has a significant role in this. They are committed to our core principles of product quality.”

Recruitment activity is underway to fill the newly created positions. Current available roles include:

  • Software Engineers/Developers
  • Web and Mobile Developers
  • Automation QA Engineers
  • Dev Ops Engineers
  • Product Managers
  • Technical Consultants
  • Graduate Developers.

Guidewire Global Services in Dublin continues to take on more projects, drawing from experience gained in over 30 successful implementations. Niall Lalor, distributed consulting director, Guidewire Ireland, commented, “It's been incredibly exciting to see the Guidewire Ireland office grow from strength to strength since we established in 2011. This expansion provides more ways for us to serve our customers while also offering excellent career opportunities for our team.”

Joan Burton, Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, said “I’m delighted that Guidewire is expanding its presence in Ireland, making its Dublin base the largest office outside its US headquarters. This expansion will allow Guidewire to recruit up to 80 new staff in highly skilled ITC positions, and comes on foot of significant recent announcements by globally-renowned companies in Dublin West, such as Bristol-Myers Squibb and IBM.

“The central focus for this Government is getting people back to work, and through the Action Plan for Jobs and Pathways to Work, along with the work of state agencies such as the IDA, we are getting results. Last week’s Live Register figures show unemployment continues to fall steadily, down to 10.6% from a crisis peak of 15.1%.”

Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, noted, “Financial services technology is a niche sector which we have identified as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and in recent years we have seen significant jobs expansion in both Irish and multinational companies in this area. Today’s announcement by Guidewire that it is hiring up to 80 new staff in Blanchardstown is another great boost. What is particularly encouraging is how important the Dublin operation has become in a short time within this global company, and how impressed the decision-makers have been with the talent they can employ here. I wish all at Guidewire every success with this investment.”

Leo Varadkar TD, Minister for Health, said "Guidewire's plans to hire up to 80 new staff in Blanchardstown over the next two years is a real boost to Dublin West, and means the Blanchardstown office will be its largest outside of America. It’s a major boost to Blanchardstown which is already a significant IT hub in Dublin West. Once again the quality of local staff is a key factor and shows we can expect further growth in the IT sector in this part of Dublin. I want to thank the company for its commitment to Blanchardstown and the staff for their commitment and dedication."

Martin Shanahan, CEO IDA Ireland, also welcomed today’s announcement. “Guidewire Software is one of a significant number of international ICT companies using Ireland as a base to develop software products for the global financial services industry.  Guidewire’s expansion of its Dublin centre is further evidence of Ireland’s ability to attract high-value investments from leading companies in software development. I would like to offer the continued support of IDA Ireland to Guidewire as it grows its international business from Ireland.”
