Speaking from today’s (7th February 2013) Informal EU Employment and Social Affairs Council at Dublin Castle, attended by Ministers from all 27 EU member states, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD welcomed the conclusion of discussions between the European Central Bank and the Government:

“Today’s announcement will make it easier for me to go in to Boardrooms from Boston to Beijing to convince multinationals to make significant investments in Ireland.

“Furthermore, even casual conversations with my fellow employment Ministers from across the EU today have given some indication of how removing the toxic names of Anglo Irish and Irish Nationwide will help us build on the major improvements we have made to our international reputation. In parallel, I am confident that today’s developments will also help improve confidence in the domestic economy

“Any improvement in international and domestic confidence will make it much easier for businesses of all types to succeed, expand, and create the jobs we need. I would like to pay tribute to the work done by the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and of course the Minister for Finance and other Ministers and officials in achieving this outcome”.
