European Innovation Council Consultation

The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation encourages stakeholders to engage with the European Commission's ongoing consultation regarding the proposed establishment of a European Innovation Council. The Department is also interested in hearing from stakeholders about their views on this issue.

The EU Commissioner for Research and Innovation Carlos Moedas has signalled his intention to establish a European Innovation Council (EIC) as a measure to encourage and reward disruptive, market-creating innovation in the EU and help to bridge the gap between already existing excellent research and the commercialisation in Europe of the output of that research, leading to new jobs, businesses and opportunities.

The European Commission has therefore launched an online public consultation process - A Call for Ideas – on the design of the EIC which can be accessed at this link: ec.europa.eu/research/eic. The closing date for submissions is Friday, 29th April, 2016.

The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, as the Government Department with policy responsibility for innovation, will be developing a submission for the public consultation process and we would welcome your views to inform our submission.
If you would like to share your responses to the EU Commission’s online survey or provide us with a paper representing your views on the EIC, please do so by emailing EURDIconsultation@djei.ie no later than 22nd March, 2016.
