Notice to Manufacturers/Processors of Certain Agricultural and Industrial Products.
This notice by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is for the attention of manufacturing and processing companies in the above-mentioned sectors. The tariff suspension/quota scheme offers the possibility for companies to import raw materials, components or intermediate products from outside the European Union free from tariff duty.
Companies, in applying for tariff suspensions, must be able to demonstrate that each item for which duty suspension is sought:
• is intended for further processing by them
• is not available within the EU
• generates duty savings of at least €15,000 per annum (if an applicant company cannot reach this minimum limit on its own, it is possible to join forces with one or more other companies in order to do so).
In the case of equipment and material (so-called capital goods) to be used in the production process, a suspension could be considered (although such products are generally finished products) provided they are specific and necessary for the manufacture of clearly identified products and are not jeopardising competing Community enterprises.
Autonomous tariff quotas are needed for certain products when, within the EU, production is insufficient to meet the needs of the user industry and can be applied for in the same way as suspensions.
The closing date and time for the receipt of the next round of applications is 5.30pm on Friday, 30 July 2021. Applications should be sent by email to email@example.com (Word format only) and posted to Hillery Brosnan at Inward Investment Unit, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, D02 TD30. Please note that late or incomplete applications will not be accepted by the Department.
The suspension of duties on these applications, if they are successful, will come into effect from 1 July 2022.
Companies that might wish to oppose applications from other Member States or oppose the renewal of existing suspensions/quotas based on production of similar or equivalent products/components should likewise contact the Department, as soon as possible, for details of the procedures involved.
