Minister Humphreys and IDA Ireland welcomes Facebook announcement of 1000 new jobs

Monday, January 21, 2019: Today, Minister Heather Humphreys TD and IDA Ireland welcomed the announcement by Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg that the company plans to hire 1,000 people across 60 teams in Ireland in 2019. The jobs created will span the engineering, safety, legal, policy, marketing and sales teams.

This follows on from the announcement in November 2018 that Facebook is expanding its investment in Ireland by acquiring a long-term lease of 14 acres for a new campus development in the heart of Ballsbridge in Dublin 4; the premises known as the Bankcentre currently occupied by AIB.

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD, said “Today’s announcement, which follows on from the acquisition of their new campus late last year, is another landmark day for Facebook in Ireland. Their continued expansion here reaffirms their commitment to Ireland and deepens our partnership. It demonstrates that we have the skills and talent available to allow companies like Facebook grow and embed their operations in Ireland, and strengthens Dublin’s position as the Digital Capital of Europe.”

Martin Shanahan, CEO IDA Ireland said, “Facebook has expanded significantly in Ireland in recent years to support its international growth. Today's announcement further deepens its commitment to Ireland, it has become the primary strategic international hub for the company; servicing millions of users across EMEA. We wish all the team at Facebook in Ireland every success with their expansion plans.”
