Investing in Ireland - Sky to Create over 800 New Jobs in Dublin

Dedicated Customer Contact Centre for Irish Customers to Open in August 2012

Sky, Ireland’s most popular digital TV provider, is to create more than 800 new jobs in Dublin over the next two years as it opens a new customer service centre to meet increased service demands from Irish customers. The new centre will open in August 2012 in Burlington Plaza, located in Dublin city centre, and will enable Sky to serve its Irish customers from one dedicated site for the first time.

Sky will begin recruiting immediately to fill the wide variety of opportunities on offer ranging from customer service manager and advisor roles to training, coaching and HR positions.

Jeremy Darroch, Sky Chief Executive, comments:

“I’m delighted that we are opening a centre in Ireland. Our Irish customers are very important to our business and the creation of this customer centre will ensure they receive first class customer service. We hope to recruit a committed and enthusiastic workforce and look forward to making further contributions to the local community. “

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, said:

“This is great news, and represents a very welcome vote of confidence in our workforce and in the Irish economy by a leading company. Confidence is key, and in the coming weeks the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs will implement a series of measures to drive reform across the economy, ensure that more businesses can create more jobs, and get growth and confidence back into the economy again”.

Sky is committed to providing top quality customer service and the opening of this centre is an example of its continuous investment in service. The new Dublin site will be Sky’s tenth customer service centre, joining other Sky sites across the UK in Scotland and England.

The new jobs are part of Sky’s wider workforce expansion which will see the creation of a total of 1,300 Sky jobs across the UK and Ireland over the next two years. This forms part an on-going programme to bring more of Sky’s customer service and installation workforce in house and ensure its own people deal with the customer issues.

Sky currently reaches over 10.5 million homes across the UK and Ireland with its services, and has led viewers into the age of high definition television with Sky+HD. More recent innovation includes Sky 3D, Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel, and Sky Go, which allows Sky customers to access live and on demand TV on computers, games consoles, iPhones and iPads. Sky continues to break new ground with its own portfolio of channels and is committed to growing its investment in home-grown content to €650m over the next three years.

The company already employs over 18,000 people across the UK and Ireland. All Sky employees benefit from competitive salaries, great benefits including free Sky products and services, as well as excellent training and personal development plans.

Sky will offer full induction training and on-going support, meaning successful Dublin applicants will soon have all the skills and knowledge they need to succeed at Sky. Interested applicants can visit www.skycustomercentres.com for more information.

Commenting on the investment IDA Ireland CEO, Barry O’Leary said “This is a very welcome announcement by a leading global brand name. The scale of BSkyB’s new customer contact centre clearly endorses the skills available in Ireland for multinational companies.”

The Burlington Plaza premises in Dublin was secured for Sky through letting agents Lisney.
