Mr Aengus Cummins appointed to the Board of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB)

The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, has appointed Mr Aengus Cummins to the Board of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB). This appointment was made on foot of a nomination by Insurance Ireland.

PIAB was set up under the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) Act 2003. A statutory body, it provides independent assessment of personal injury compensation for victims of workplace, motor and public liability accidents, without the need for many associated litigation costs.

Appointments to the Board of PIAB are made in accordance with the Personal Injuries Assessment Board Act 2003, as amended. Under Section 56 of the Act, Insurance Ireland, along with the Central Bank and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission are nominating bodies to the Board of PIAB. All other appointments are made through the Public Appointments Service (PAS) which aims to provide an open, efficient and effective gateway and process to identify top quality people for consideration by the Minister for appointment to State Boards.

Mr Aengus Cummins has served as CEO, Senior Manager and Chartered Director in both the domestic and international (re)insurance markets for more than 35 years. Mr Cummins was appointed to the Board on 30 April 2019.
